Description
Ibn al-Jazari (1350–1429), Small manuscript containing the *Hisn al-Hasîn*, North Africa, signed and dated 1731 Manuscript on paper, with 10 lines of text per page in Maghribi Arabic in black ink; a few lines or terms in polychrome inks. The author’s name, al-Imam Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Jazari al-Dimashqi al-Shâfi’i, is indicated in a paragraph in red ink at the beginning of the manuscript; the title of the *Hisn al-Hasîn* is indicated in brown and red ink in the centre of the work. At the end of the manuscript, a colophon gives the name of the scribe, ‘Abd Allah (?) bin Ahmad bin Yusuf, and the date in numerals: 1144 H / 1731. Brown morocco flap binding, embossed with a mandorla motif enhanced with red leather and gilding. Housed in a brown leather pouch flanked by two suspension rings to which a leather strap is attached. Binding dimensions: X x X cm; pouch dimensions: X x X cm Signs of wear, small wormholes, a few stains and creases, handwritten notes added at a later date, binding heavily worn, pouch in its current condition.
