Description
In the Sèvres style, modelled on Madame du Barry’s service.
A set of four porcelain plates with scalloped rims, featuring a polychrome and gold decoration; in the centre, the intertwined initials ‘DB’; on the rim, a frieze of floral garlands alternating with small vases. A row of blue and gold beads around the rim.
Apocryphal marks: interlaced LL, date letter S for 1771, painter’s mark Lebel.
Diameter: 24 cm.
(Some variations in dimensions; a tiny chip on the rim, which has been repaired).
The soft-paste porcelain blanks probably date from the 18th century.
