Description
Louis MAJORELLE (1859–1926) A writing desk with panels and a stepped section, crafted from ribbed, moulded and carved walnut. The top section features a central, domed drawer at the front and rests on two side panels; one opening to reveal four drawers, the other to a solid door surmounted by a drawer. The stepped section, recessed in the centre, opens to reveal two central drawers surmounting a large niche and two drawers on each side, each surmounted by a niche. The sides of the compartments extend down to form ‘elephant’s foot’ legs and are joined by curvilinear arcades. The panelled doors and the original bronze drawer pulls (Majorelle registered design). The top of the entablature features a large fawn-coloured leather desk pad embellished with a gilded frieze. Art Nouveau period.
