Description
RUSSIA CIVIL WAR 1918/1919 – WHITE ARMIES OF SOUTHERN RUSSIA. SIXTY STAMPS from the issues of Rostov-on-Don, Ekaterinodar and Novocherkassk – ( * ) - 60 mint and used stamps bearing witness to history. ( * ) - In April 1918, General Krasnoff organised his army and began to recapture the Don region from the Red Army. His government set new postal rates in the liberated territories at 25 kopecks for an ordinary letter and 50 kopecks for a registered letter. Given the shortage of stamps, it was necessary to overprint the remaining Russian stamps, from the 1916–17 issues, both perforated and imperforated. Except in Novocherkassk, where General DENIKIN decided to issue original stamps featuring the symbol of St George slaying the dragon for use in the territories liberated from the Red Army.
