Description

USSR – SOVIET RUSSIA 1961; RARE tourist propaganda series 1956–1959. A collection of six colour-illustrated postcards (postal stationery), featuring views of Moscow and Leningrad. The reverse bears the coats of arms of the 15 republics with a printed 25-kopeck stamp depicting a miner or the Moscow Kremlin. .Postcards sold for 40 kopecks. All six bear an overprint informing the public of the new price set at 4 kopecks with effect from 1 January 1961. - Note: much like the new franc in France, the USSR, under Khrushchev’s influence, decreed this monetary reform, with 1 ‘heavy’ rouble exchanged for 10 old roubles.
