Description
FRANCE – in a DAVO album from 1849 to 1949. Album with pre-printed slots, stamps in ‘Limpid’ sleeves already in place. The collector has put a great deal of money and heart into this collection. Unfortunately, the children left the collection forgotten in a cupboard for 20 years. The mint stamps have become stuck to the ‘Limpid’ plastic sleeves and, whilst the stamps have not adhered to the paper, the gum is ‘glossy and shiny’.
Of particular note are a great many fine series purchased at a high price on the market at the time, such as the Samothrace pair, ‘intellectual idlers’, Ader, ‘great men’, the Pétain strips, celebrities and commemorative stamps with surcharges, the PARIS BLOCK (No. 1), the PEXIP block (no. 3) … these two Yvert blocks alone are worth 1,900 euros mint *…
In fact, the collection is virtually complete from 1939 to 1949 for postal items, plus sections of varying completeness for pre-cancelled items, postage-free items, tax stamps, etc.
