Description
[Biology - Sciences] Emmanuel Fauré Frémiet (1883-1971), biologist and professor at the Collège de France Reunion of approx. 92 folios of various sizes, some of which have been cut out, each plate showing original drawings of plant analyses, in graphite and coloured pencil, with a few watercolour highlights, mostly titled, captioned in pen and wood pencil by Emmanuel Fauré-Frémiet, dated circa 1903. This set of scientific analyses is extremely rare: The famous discovery of "Opisthonecta Henneguyi - Fauré-Fremiet", 29 x 32 cm; "Sur une nouvelle Vorticellide, Opisthonecta Henneguyi" article published in the Compte-rendu de la séance du 26 mai 1906 de la Société de Biologie, he explains: "I found in a small pond on the banks of the Oise, at Précy, a Vorticellid which I believe has not yet been described (...) I think it would be useful to create the new genus Opisthonecta for this Vorticellid. I am happy to have the honour of dedicating the first species to my master and accordingly naming it Op. Hennguyi (...) Fauré"; "Vorticella"; "Scyphidia"; "Lagenophrys"; "Campanella"; etc. Emmanuel Fauré-Frémiet, the eldest son of the famous composer Gabriel Fauré, was a student at the Paris Faculty of Science in the early 1900s. He was a pupil of Louis-Félix Henneguy (1850-1928), a botanical biologist and professor at the Collège de France, where he worked on research in the cytology laboratory. After obtaining a degree in natural sciences and a doctorate in natural sciences in 1924, he pursued a brilliant scientific career as professor of comparative embryogenesis at the Collège de France (1928-1954) and director of the cytology laboratory at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (1928-1955).
