Description
Richard PARAIRE (1869–1935) Man seated near a kapok tree in Côte d’Ivoire. Oil on canvas, signed lower left. 54 x 36 cm (without frame) Richard PARAIRE was a painter, traveller and photographer, and a close friend of Gustave BINGER (the first Governor of the Ivory Coast), whom he accompanied on his missions and explorations (from 1892–1893). It is possible that the painting depicts the Tiassalé region or the banks of the Bandama River, areas where Paraire and Binger camped.
