"The Secularised Monk". Cologne, Pierre du Marteau, 1678. One volume, in-12. Leather binding, spined title, decorated in gold with five raised bands. Frontispiece depicting a pedlar selling books and devotional objects. A rare and scathing pamphlet against the monastic life. The author of ‘The Secularised Monk’ has been identified; following research, the work is attributed to a certain Jean Chastain, known as Duparc (Revue historique vaudoise, 1988). Book not collated; a few scratches to the binding and minor signs of wear. Minor foxing.
