LOUIS VUITTON - Champs Élysées Extremely rare shipping trunk that converts into a folding table Green Vuittonite canvas exterior, lozine edging, beechwood slat reinforcements on the back, top and front. Table top in green Vuittonite. Central and side locks, table linkage and polished brass studs Rope handles designed to accommodate the bamboo pole for carrying in the bush Lining in natural linen/cotton canvas Zinc base Former marking on the front: ‘Commandant Mascarel’ When folded, the table fits into the lid of the trunk via a locking mechanism. The linkage system is housed in a small compartment within the main body. One of the particularly thick support brackets is notched to hold the lid in the open position. Inventory no.: 185218 Dimensions when closed: approx. 70x43x40 cm Dimensions when open (as a table): approx. 65 x 66 cm Shows signs of wear; slight repainting on the green ‘Vuittonite’ canvas exterior; the internal frame is missing. Circa 1912 Passed down through the family, this trunk belonged to Mr René Georges de Mascarel de La Corbière (1847–1937), a military doctor in a cavalry regiment, who spent considerable time on overseas operational deployments.
