Description
BORDEAUX, 1781–1782 Jean-François JOUET, known as ‘le cadet’, master silversmith, admitted to the guild in 1765 Pair of silver candlesticks Resting on a base with contoured edges and stepped sections, moulded with fillets, surmounted by a dovetail-shaped centre piece. The faceted shaft, punctuated by stepped sections and mouldings, is decorated in its central section with elongated recesses terminating in shells. The cylindrical bowl is highlighted by concentric mouldings. Complete with their removable, contoured lampshades. Master silversmith’s, guild and hallmark marks beneath the bases. Bordeaux, 1781–1782. H. 27.5 cm Base diameter: 14.5 cm Total weight: 1,520 g Signs of wear, scratches and minor distortions due to use.
