Two volumes in-4, bound in brown calfskin, spines with five raised bands, garnet morocco title label, volume numbers in gold, decorated caps and edges, speckled edges (contemporary binding). Upper caps worn down, small losses to one lower cap, scuffing on the spines with small losses of gilding. FIRST EDITION illustrated with 70 separate copper-engraved plates. This IMPORTANT WORK traces the evolution of the French military organisation, armaments, equipment and combat practices.
