Folio, ½ dark brown shagreen with corners, ribbed spine, gilt title, gilt edges (late 19th-century binding); (26) leaves including frontispiece, title page and 2 portraits, 522 pp., (6) half-leaves. Slight marginal water-stains, a few brown spots, some pages browned; a tear at the top of one plate, with no loss, has been restored. FIRST EDITION of this famous epic poem in honour of JOAN OF ARC. A FRONTISPICE, a title vignette, headpieces, initials and tailpieces, 2 PORTRAITS engraved by Robert NANTEUIL, one of which is after Philippe de Champaigne, and 12 BEAUTIFUL FULL-PAGE ILLUSTRATIONS included in the pagination, engraved on copper by Abraham BOSSE after the painter Claude VIGNON. A PLEASANT COPY of ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ILLUSTRATED BOOKS OF THE 17th century, with the text block in good condition and the engravings of fine quality.
