Description
DIEUZAIDE (Jean, known as Yan, 1921–2003). 25 PHOTOGRAPHS OF TOULOUSE: MONUMENTS, AERIAL VIEWS AND THE BANKS OF THE GARONNE. Undated. A collection of 25 original black-and-white photographs (averaging approximately 24 × 19 cm), silver gelatin prints in various formats, some with white margins or the words ‘Photo Yan’ within the image. Numerous stamps on the reverse: ‘Reportage photographique YAN’, ‘Photo Jean DIEUZAIDE’ or ‘J. DIEUZAIDE’, along with addresses in Toulouse, reproduction notes, reference numbers and handwritten captions, all of which attest to the professional use of these prints. Some signs of handling, creases, minor scuffs and marginal damage; traces of adhesive on some reverse sides. A BEAUTIFUL DOCUMENTARY AND ARCHITECTURAL COLLECTION DEDICATED TO TOULOUSE. The photographs include views of the Basilica of Saint-Sernin, the Church of the Jacobins (with its octagonal bell tower, interior architecture and famous ‘palm tree’), the Hôtel d’Assézat and Saint-Étienne Cathedral, the latter shown at night, with cars and streaks of light on the square. Several aerial views show the city’s monuments and rooftops, as well as Place Wilson and the Allées Jean-Jaurès. The compositions taken from the banks of the Garonne feature Notre-Dame de la Daurade, the quays, the bridges and the Grave dome, beneath cloudy skies or through the trees lining the riverbank. A BEAUTIFUL COLLECTION combining the precision of photojournalism, an exploration of heritage and artistic expression, particularly evident in the low-angle perspectives, the reflections on the river and the night-time lighting.
