STEVENSON (R.-L.). TREASURE ISLAND. Translated from the English by Théo Varlet. Paris, Éditions de la Sirène, 1920. A substantial in-12 paperback volume of 336 pages. Cover showing signs of wear: partly discoloured, with a few stains, snags and small tears; the text block is in good condition. FIRST EDITION of Théo Varlet’s translation, regarded as the first French version faithful to Stevenson’s text, following the abridged adaptation produced by André Laurie for Hetzel in 1885. It features a map of the island as a FRONTISPICE. ONE OF 30 NUMBERED COPIES on Korean paper (no. 18), THE ONLY LUXURY EDITION. A rare copy on large-format paper of ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS ADVENTURE NOVELS in British literature. A GOOD COPY, with the main body of the book in GOOD CONDITION.
