[TRAVEL]. [CARTEAU (Jean-Félix)]. HISTORY OF THE DISASTERS OF SAINT-DOMINGUE. By F. C***., one of its former colonists. Bordeaux, Pellier-Lawalle, 1802. In-8 ½, marbled fawn sheepskin, smooth spine decorated with two gilt scrolls, title label in garnet morocco (later binding); (1) half-title leaf, XLII–306 pp. Water damage to the side margin of the half-title and title leaves, in the lower corner of the last 10 leaves and on the margins of a few other leaves; a black stain at the top of the last 5 leaves. FIRST EDITION, very rare, of these ‘Bermudian Evenings’, comprising seven conversations. It is preserved with generous margins in a binding probably dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. ¶ Missing from Sabin’s catalogue.
