Description
[ALGERIA]. GUYON (J.-L.-G.). JOURNEY FROM ALGIERS TO THE ZIBAN – Ancient Zebe in 1847. Algiers, Government Printing Office, 1850. Italian-style in-4, ½ dark brown sheepskin, chagrin-patterned cloth covers, smooth, compartmentalised and decorated spine, gilt title (contemporary binding); (2) title leaves and table of plates, 35 plates. Spines partly split, cap bands missing, water stains and foxing in the margins of some plates. FIRST EDITION of this ATLAS containing a PORTRAIT of the last Bey of Constantine and 34 PLATES, out of text, with lithographed views. A text volume in 8vo was published two years later. The work is enriched at the end with 5 ORIGINAL DRAWINGS dated ‘1865’, one in graphite and four in watercolour. ¶ Tailliart, 777.
