Description
A rare pennant of the 13th Half-Brigade of the Foreign Legion (13th D.B.L.E.), 3rd Battalion, 12th Company, made by Hermès in Paris. Made of silk in the colours of the Foreign Legion, edged with gold thread fringing. The Legion’s flames, the number ‘13’ and the inscriptions: ‘Honour – Loyalty – Bir-Hackeim’ on one side and, on the other: ‘3rd Battalion – 12th Company’, all embroidered in silk thread. A Croix de Guerre T.O.E. with a palm is attached to the top left of the pennant. On the leather mounts, the inscription ‘Hermès-Paris’ (the House of Hermès produced pennants to special order, primarily for the Foreign Legion and the Cavalry) is applied in gold foil. The pennant is displayed in a glass-covered frame resting on a wooden plinth, upon which is placed a label bearing the inscription: ‘Colonel Morel’s Office, 1st floor’. Dimensions including fringes: 47 x 39 cm. Very fine condition; circa 1950.
