Description
Personalised M-41 jacket – 29th Infantry Division A superb second-model M-41 combat jacket, personalised and issued to a soldier of the 29th Infantry Division. This jacket was found in the Saint-Lô area (50) in the early 1990s. Manufacturer’s label present but illegible. Functional ‘Talon’ zip. Hand-sewn ‘Blue and Grey’ patch. Hand-painted “Private First Class” sleeve chevrons. Name and service number inside the collar. This marking made it possible to accurately identify the jacket’s former owner. He was Private First Class Francis A. WOLFE – Service number: 20347544. Born on 3 November 1919 in West Virginia, he enlisted in February 1941. Assigned to Company A of the 104th Medical Battalion – 29th Infantry Division, he took part, alongside his unit, in the landings on Omaha Beach on 6 June 1944. Providing medical care to the division’s troops, he took part in all the campaigns of the 29th Infantry Division (Normandy, northern France, the Rhineland and central Europe). Having consulted his medical records, we have learned that he was never wounded during his service. Demobilised in 1945, he was awarded the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal and the American Defence Service Medal, amongst other honours. We would like to thank Jonathan VIGNERON, ‘World War Archives Researcher’, for this identification. Total height: 65cm Shoulder width: 46cm Sleeve length: 57cm As is, a worn item showing several signs of wear and tear.
