Estimate €450 - €650
Description
An elegant, large and unusual flintlock pistol. Smooth-bore octagonal barrel, calibre 30 balls per pound. Fixed rear sight and front sight. Beautiful two-stage trigger. Flat frame. Strong swan-neck hammer with floral engraving. Angled pan. Bore spring screwed in from the inside. Iron-mounted gun. Flat oval cap with two steps incorporated into the woodwork of the cap. Two-step counter-triggers with floral decoration. The barrel is secured by two slides on a light walnut mount extending to the muzzle. The stock is finished with a very simple but highly elegant stamp-varnish finish, suggesting the French manufacture of this gun. The ramrod is missing. The mechanism is in working order. The curve of the stock is reminiscent of a First Empire style. The shape of the hammer, however, is more characteristic of a mid-18th-century weapon. A fleur-de-lis hallmark on the inside of the lock plate appears to confirm that this weapon was made during the monarchy. Length: 400 mm. Condition 1.
