[ATLAS]. ROBERT DE VAUGONDY (Didier) – DELAMARCHE (Charles-François). NEW PORTABLE ATLAS, intended chiefly for the education of young people. Revised, corrected and expanded by C. F. Delamarche, and adopted for use at the Imperial Military School of Saint-Germain. Paris, Delamarche, [c. 1813]. Large quarto (318 × 245 mm) half marbled fawn sheepskin, marbled paper covers, smooth spine decorated with gilt fleurons, red sheepskin title label, speckled edges (later binding); (9) pp., 54 double-page maps. Corners worn, small losses and signs of impact along the edges, a black ink stain on the upper margin of map 31 (Kingdom of Italy), a brown stain on the title page. REVISED AND EXPANDED EDITION by Delamarche of Robert de Vaugondy’s atlas, containing 54 double-page copper-engraved MAPS, with boundaries highlighted in colour. The table of contents lists 52 maps but there are in fact 54. The map of the West Indies is dated ‘1812’. A copy in EXCELLENT CONDITION, preserved in a binding from the second half of the 19th century, with the main body of the work (text and maps) entirely mounted on tabs. ¶ Sabin, 71869.
