[ATLAS]. BRUÉ (Adrien-Hubert). UNIVERSAL ATLAS OF PHYSICAL, POLITICAL, ANCIENT AND MODERN GEOGRAPHY, containing general and detailed maps of all parts of the world. Paris, Charles Picquet, [c. 1844]. Large folio, ½ dark brown sheepskin, smooth spine decorated with two large rocaille metal tools and gilt fillets, gilt title (contemporary binding). Binding very worn: cap pieces torn off, joints rubbed, a tear at the top of the upper joint, scuff marks, inner hinge split, tears and small losses on the first endpaper and the title page; the plates are all uniformly and slightly browned. NEW EDITION, revised and expanded by Charles PICQUET. It comprises 65 double-page MAPS (approx. 66 × 53 cm) on heavy vellum with coloured borders, bearing the Brué Collection’s embossed stamp. The right-hand section of map no. 28 (France, Switzerland and neighbouring countries) is a fold-out; the two maps relating to the UNITED STATES (‘Map of North America’; and ‘General Map of the United States and Canada’) are both dated 1843. A COMPLETE copy, with all 65 maps in GOOD CONDITION, all carefully mounted on tabs.
