Defects: Corners of the first endpaper and the first blank leaf of Vol. 1 are worn, very scattered faint water stains at the margins throughout the volumes, more pronounced in Vol. 1, a 15 cm tear (with no loss of material) at the fold of the ‘Dervish Dance’ plate, minimal worm damage, without affecting the text, in the upper margin of the last two parts of vol. 4; a small loss of leather at the top cap of vol. 2; a few small losses and scuffs on the covers; a few rounded corners. NEW EDITION of this IMPORTANT ILLUSTRATED WORK, one of the finest of the 18th century. It contains 4 title pages and 264 plates (excluding title pages) engraved on steel, including 41 double-page or fold-out plates. A PLEASANT COPY, in a contemporary binding in GOOD CONDITION, complete with all plates; the scattered water stains found throughout the volume have not compromised the quality of the fine laid paper and are very often marginal. ¶ Brunet, I, 1743 – Sabin, 4931 – Cohen, 134, for the first edition of 1733.
