SWITZERLAND – SWISS CONFEDERATION – Set of four 20-franc coins ‘ HELVETICA – Landscapes and Legends’, 1994–1996 – Federal Mint, Bern. Common obverse: A stylised Federal Cross occupying the field. In the centre, the denomination ‘20 FR’, the inscription ‘CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA’, the year of issue and the mint mark ‘B’ for Bern. Reverse of the four coins: 1994 – The Devil’s Bridge: The devil carrying an enormous boulder above the Schöllenen Bridge, in a mountainous landscape through which the River Reuss flows. 1995 – The Queen of the Serpents of Graubünden: A crowned serpent overlooking a Rhaetian landscape comprising of mountains, forests and bodies of water. 1996 – Gargantua the Giant: Gargantua leaning over a Swiss landscape of valleys, rivers and forests. 1996 – The Dragon of Breno: A dragon soaring over a Ticino landscape, featuring the mountains, the village of Breno and its church. The four designs are by the Swiss artist Peter Emch, Zurich. References: KM# 74 (1994); KM# 75 (1995); KM# 76 (1996, Gargantua); KM# 77 (1996, Dragon of Breno). Edge: Inscription ‘DOMINUS PROVIDEBIT’ accompanied by thirteen stars. Gross weight: 20.00 g per coin; total weight 80.00 g. Metal and fineness: 835 silver. Diameter: 33 mm. Accessory: Accompanied by its original presentation case bearing the gold-coloured inscription ‘HELVETICA 1994–1996’. Historical note: The ‘Landscapes and Legends’ series combines four regional tales with Swiss landscapes : the Devil’s Bridge, the Queen of Serpents, Gargantua and the Dragon of Breno. The four designs, created by Peter Emch, form a series designed between 1994 and 1996.
