. SWITZERLAND – LUCERNE – Modern medal modelled on the 1557 thaler worth fifteen écus. Obverse: Saint Léger, bishop and patron saint of Lucerne, seated facing the viewer on a Gothic throne, wearing a mitre and surrounded by a halo. On the left, a figure depicts the saint’s martyrdom. Legend on the prototype: ‘1557 ✥ S ✥ LEODIGARI⁹ ✥ PATR' ✥ LVCERNE'’. Reverse: A crowned double-headed imperial eagle. Beneath the eagle, the coat of arms of Lucerne supported by two lions; surrounding it, fifteen coats of arms representing the bailiwicks of Lucerne. Gross weight: 24.90 g.
