SWITZERLAND – SWISS CONFEDERATION – 20 francs ‘150th anniversary of the federal state ’, 1998 – Bern. Obverse: A geometric design consisting of a square made up of twenty-five Swiss crosses, arranged in five rows of five. Upper inscription ‘HELVETIA’, denomination ‘20 FR’ flanking the design, year of issue 1998 in the exergue and mintmark B. Designed by Werner Jeker. Reverse: Reproduction of the design from the first Swiss 5-franc federal coin of 1850, depicting Helvetia seated, her right arm outstretched, holding the Swiss coat of arms; an Alpine landscape in the background. The design is set within a square frame, flanked by two Swiss crosses. Years 1848 and 1998. Signature A. BOVY, in honour of the engraver Antoine Bovy. Edge: Inscription in relief. Gross weight: 20.00 g. Metal and fineness: 835 silver. Diameter: 32.80 mm. Thickness: 2.80 mm. Face value: 20 Swiss francs. Mint: Federal Mint, Bern, mark B. Orientation: Medal strike, 12 o’clock. Strike quality: Commemorative coin. Condition: SUP; slight golden patina and fine surface marks. Historical note: Issued in 1998 to mark the 150th anniversary of the Federal State and the Constitution of 1848. The reverse features Antoine Bovy’s seated Helvetia, used on the Confederation’s first major coins .
