Description
[PASCAL PAOLI] Circular copper stamp of Pascal Paoli. Legended "PASQ. DE PAOLI GEN. DEL REG. DI CORSICA". Engraved with the arms of Corsica with winged genii carrying coral branches and clubs. With its black wooden case lined with green silk. H. Height: 3.7 cm Diameter: 4 cm. This official stamp is similar to the coins made at the Zecca mint. A coin is a piece of metal engraved with the imprint of a coin. As successive coins are minted, these coins wear out. As a result, no Corsican coin dies have survived. Nevertheless, it is highly likely that this stamp was made by the engravers who supplied the coins to the Zecca de Murato in the 1760s, making it one of the few surviving examples of coins from this period.
