Genoa, Giuseppe Pavoni, 1624.

Binding worn and probably with old restorations, marginal damage and loss to several leaves, defects in use; a fairly fresh copy, preserved in its old binding.
Rare first edition of the Statuti Civili di Bonifacio, an important legal and administrative compendium governing the city of Bonifacio under Genoese rule.
Printed in Genoa in 1624 by Giuseppe Pavoni, the work brings together the civil, criminal, commercial and administrative statutes applicable to the community of Bonifacio: magistracies, market police, maritime regulations, justice, taxation, rural estates, supplies, privileges granted by the Republic of Genoa, as well as various conventions and official ordinances.
The volume opens with the :
"STATUTI CIVILI DI BONIFACIO" and includes in particular:
- The Statuti delle vittovaglie e grasse,
- The Statuti della Camparia,
- The Statuti de' Censori,
- Conventiones in Latin,
as well as a letter from the Genoese Senate dated 1619 concerning the application of the "gride" and public regulations in Bonifacio.
A key testimony to the institutional history of Bonifacio and the Genoese presence in Corsica in the early 17th century, this work is one of the most important printed texts relating to local Corsican law under the Ancien Régime.
