Description
[COMMISSION MINICIPALE DE BASTIA - 1830]
Rare Corsican revolutionary poster printed in Bastia the day after the "Three Glorious Years" of July 1830.
Signed by Mayor Antoine-Hyacinthe Lota.
Printed on paper, split into two parts laminated on paper.
Addressed to the "Inhabitans of Corsica", this official text announces Bastia's rallying to the new power born of the Parisian revolution and celebrates the return of public liberties and the tricolour flag.
The document called for calm, unity and respect for the law, while condemning despotism and political excesses. The municipality of Bastia affirmed its support for national ideals and the National Guard, in a climate of patriotic enthusiasm marked by the final cry: "Long live France!
The text was signed by a number of Bastia's notables and bears direct witness to the spread of the revolutionary events of 1830 to Corsica.
The play is an interesting historical record of political life in Bastia at the start of the July Monarchy, and a rare document on how events in Paris were received on the island.
