Charles-Edouard JEANNERET known as LE CORBUSIER (1887-1965) Von (portrait of Yvonne Le Corbusier, the artist's wife) 1943 Washed pastel and ink over a graphite sketch on a sheet of original folded Vergé paper Unstained paper, middle fold, curled paper, stains, small tears at edges. 41.8 x 27 cm Folds in the centre This portrait of Le Corbusier's wife, languid, her head resting on his shoulder, is also sometimes called Vonvon. During the Occupation, Le Corbusier was often away from his wife. He painted several portraits of her that year that were quite similar, but due to a lack of materials during the war, he drew on sheets of letter paper folded in half.
