A gilt bronze and burnished and sea-green marble HANGER. "Without fear or reproach" representing the bravery and courage of the Chevalier Bayard. Our clock represents François 1er, his left leg bent and kneeling on a ceremonial stool, his right arm stretched out and resting on the Great Book and his left arm folded over his ceremonial garment holding his hat. He is adorned with his ostrich sacramental cloak and wears a medallion with the archangel and the sword scabbard. The knight Bayard, his arm outstretched, rests his sword on the nape of Francis I's neck and bows to him. The shield on the ground. A sword rests on a cushion among the symbols of chivalry: shield, helmet. On the bas-relief, Muses make offerings to the knight Bayard. The plinth bears François 1st's adage "Without fear or reproach". Ornamental elements need to be refixed, in particular the swords, shield and helmet. The dial signed "Chonifsen à PARIS". (restoration on the dial). Original gilding (to be cleaned). It stands on lion claws decorated with palmettes. 72 x 55,5 x 23 cm. Commissioned by Cardinal FESCH, Napoleon's uncle, according to family tradition to Monsieur GOUVE, chaser.
