Description
VIARDOT Gabriel (1830–1906) (Attributed to)
A so-called ‘working’ parlour table in stained wood with Chinese-style engraved and carved decoration. The asymmetrical rectangular top features a central panel inlaid with mother-of-pearl flowers set against a dark background, a motif repeated on the border; the underside is darkened by a mirror and reveals storage compartments. It rests on four curved claw-foot legs joined by a crossbar featuring a large openwork motif echoing the decoration of the lower band. Gilded bronze dragons and mascarons are fitted at the corners and in the centre (scratches, wear, cracks on the top, woodworm holes).
Height: 78.5 cm x Width: 65.5 cm x Depth: 44 cm
