Description
Takashi MURAKAMI (Born in 1962)
A set of ten figurines.
Superflat Museum limited edition, 2003.
Takashi Murakami, born in 1962 in Tokyo, is an internationally renowned Japanese contemporary artist. A painter, sculptor and cultural entrepreneur, he is the founder of the Superflat movement, which draws inspiration from both traditional Japanese culture and the aesthetics of manga, animation and pop culture. His colourful and exuberant world blends kawaii imagery with darker references, addressing themes such as consumerism, globalisation, identity and the traumas of contemporary Japanese history. Murakami is famous for his iconic characters, notably the smiling flowers and Mr DOB, as well as for his collaborations with luxury brands and leading figures in fashion and music
