VD16 H 6000 – Following the death of Martin Luther and in the wake of the drafting of the Formula of Concord (1577), there were fierce disputes within the Lutheran movement. The theologian Matthias Flacius had claimed that original sin was the very ‘substance’ of fallen humanity. In his treatise, Hunnius opposed such radical currents as well as Catholic and Calvinist positions. He helped to define the official Lutheran doctrine, according to which original sin is a profound accident (a corrupter of nature), but not the substance of humankind itself, as created by God. - Paper slightly yellowed due to age, with light brown spots; a watermark is visible at the bottom of the page. Page b2 has a restored tear at the top outer margin with no loss of text. The paper is somewhat browned with age and lightly foxed, with a dampstain in the lower margin of the leaves. Leaf b2 shows a restored tear at the uppermost outer margin, with no loss of text.
