Theology – Bibles – Biblia Germanica Biblia. This is the entire Holy Scripture: the Old and New Testaments. Translated into German by Martin Luther. 2 parts in 1 volume. With 2 engraved titles, printed title in red and black, 5 engraved running titles and 24 copper plates, 9 of which are double-sheet size. Nuremberg, Wolfgang Endter, 1649. 50 leaves, 1,118 pp. 416 pp., 14 leaves folio. Brown leather binding in the style of the period over wooden covers with two brass clasps and a royal crest. Third edition of the Weimar Elector’s Bible. The half-titles are still taken from the first edition of 1641. – Plates featuring portraits of Queen Christina of Sweden, the eleven Electors and Luther. Also included are, amongst other things, a coat of arms, a large calendar page, maps of Jerusalem and Noah’s Ark, maps of the Holy Land, a depiction of the Augsburg Confession, and the ‘heretic’s tree’. – Browned with age and showing some brown staining in places. First title page professionally restored at the edges. Second title page with a small hole. Portrait of Queen Christina backed in the left margin. 1 plate with missing sections in the white margin. Overall, a good copy. Bibles – 2 parts in 1 vol. With 2 engraved titles, title in red and black, 5 engraved intertitles and 24 copper plates, 9 of which are double-page. Brown leather in the style of the period, over wooden boards with two brass clasps and a label. – Third edition of the Weimar Elector’s Bible. The intertitles are from the first edition of 1641. – Plates featuring portraits of Queen Christina of Sweden, the eleven electors and Luther. Furthermore, amongst other things, a depiction of the coat of arms, a large calendar page, plans of Jerusalem and Noah’s Ark, maps of the Holy Land, a depiction of the Augsburg Confession, and a ‘tree of heresy’. - Browned with age and showing some brown staining in places. The first title page has been expertly restored in the margins. The second title page has a small hole. The portrait of Queen Christine has been backed in the left margin. One plate has a missing section in the white margin. Overall, a good copy.
