Spies, 1598. 14 leaves, 495 pp. Contemporary parchment binding with overhanging edges (handwritten text in black and red on parchment (Vulgate fragment)) (somewhat stained and scuffed, edges bumped, with small tears and creases). First edition of this rare work. - VD 16 R 2233 - Schottenloher 34176 - Not in the BL, listed by Adams et al. - (Stabi Berlin, ‘war loss’). - Edited by Georg Nigrinus with his annotations. - Woodcuts depicting the Creation, Adam and Eve, the Flood and the Tower of Babel. - Probably formerly owned by Johann Michael Haas, with his signature on the endpaper and (his?) coat-of-arms ex-libris on the inside cover (featuring a hare). - Tanned and slightly foxed, with some minor wormholes in places; endpaper with a few crackles and a small loss. Without the separately published *Continatio*.
