Missale Romanum, restored in accordance with the decree of the Most Holy Council of Trent (...). With engraved ornate title page, 7 engraved full-page text plates, a few woodcut initials and vignettes, and numerous musical notes printed within the text. Venice, Giunta, 1651. 34 leaves, 647 pages, CIX, 10 pp., 1 folio 8°. Blind-stamped contemporary leather binding over wooden covers with 2 clasps (expertly restored, somewhat scuffed and bumped, minimal worm-eaten traces). USTC 1745418. – Rare; only 3 copies of this edition listed in WorldCat (The British Library, St Pancras, Stanford University Libraries, Harvard University). – Currently not traceable on the international market. - The Giunta were a Florentine family of printers who, from the end of the 15th century, also ran a printing house in Venice, amongst other places. The Giunta family’s coat of arms featured the Florentine lily. - Two-column typesetting, printed throughout in red and black. - On the engraved title page, a handwritten ownership note reads: ‘Conventus Jesu: B: M: V: de Luggania. 1698’. - The last three blank leaves are entirely inscribed by an earlier hand. - The nuanced plates were engraved by the Italian copperplate engraver Isabella Piccini. - Slightly browned due to the paper, in places with some finger stains, only a few brown and mould stains, one leaf with a tear, in places with defects filled in. Overall, a very well-preserved copy, with consistently magnificent and richly nuanced copperplate engravings throughout. With an engraved decorative title page, 7 engraved full-page text copperplates, some woodcut initials and vignettes, and numerous musical notes printed within the text. Blind-stamped leather over wooden boards with 2 clasps (expertly restored, somewhat rubbed and bumped, with minimal worm-eaten areas). - Rare; only 3 copies of this edition are listed in WorldCat (The British Library, St Pancras, Stanford University Libraries, Harvard University). - Currently unavailable to us on the international market. - The Giunta were a Florentine family of book printers who operated a printing press in Venice from the end of the 15th century. The Giunta family used the Florentine lily as their coat of arms. - Two-column text, printed in red and black throughout. - On the engraved title page, there is a handwritten ownership inscription: ‘Conventus Jesu: B: M: V: de Luggania. 1698’. - The last three blank leaves are inscribed in old hand throughout. - The nuanced plates were engraved by the Italian engraver Isabella Piccini. - Slightly browned due to the paper, with some fingermark stains; only slightly browned and foxed; one leaf has a tear; some defects where the pages have been backed.
