Description
Baedeker, Fritz Handwritten letter signed ‘Karl Baedeker’ to Messrs (publisher Ernst Victor) Schmorl and (Alfred) von Seefeld in Hanover. Leipzig, 18 February 1890. 1.5 pages on a single sheet (approx. 21.8 x 14.2 cm) of handmade paper with a personalised letterhead. May I ask you for a favour regarding my travel guide, as I currently lack a suitable correspondent there? I would like to include a few remarks in the new edition of my ‘Northern Germany’—which is currently in press—regarding the Kestner Museum, which opened last November … and had approached Dr Schuchardt … with this request, but received no reply. - Slightly creased at the top edge of the page; otherwise in good condition. - NDB 1 (1953), p. 516. - Fritz Baedeker (1844–1925) was the youngest of three sons of the publisher Karl Baedeker. He ran his father’s publishing house from 1869 until his death. - Also included: a postcard written in his own hand, signed ‘Fr. Baedeker at Karl Baedeker & Co.’, addressed to Mr A. v. Seefeld in Hanover. Leipzig, 20 February 1890. – “My sincere thanks for your kind reply to the … note concerning the K. (estner) Museum. Whilst I generally appreciate the willingness to accommodate such enquiries as that made to Dr Sch.(uchhardt), a lack of response sometimes leads to the most unpleasant delays, unless another obliging correspondent, such as yourself now, steps in to help.” - A few small ink stains; otherwise in good condition. Autograph letter and postcard signed by the German publisher Fritz Baedeker, in well-preserved condition.
