Description
Croatia – Theatre Medovich, Demetrio Handwritten letter bearing a signature, addressed to an unnamed ‘Your Honour’. Written in German on paper. Teatro Nuovo Zara, 25 December 1898. 2 pages on 1 double sheet (each 20.3 x 13 cm) bearing the printed letterhead of the theatre’s board of directors and the watermark “Margaret Mill / Jvory Paper / Vienna Manufacture”. Medovich was one of the directors of the Teatro Nuovo in Zara (Zadar), which was destroyed during the Second World War and no longer exists today. - Cover letter accompanying a programme, also enclosed here, for the first performance of *Lohengrin* at the Teatro Nuovo in Zara (approx. 28.5 x 19 cm). “The first performance took place on 30 April 1898 to great acclaim … Lohengrin was the first Wagner opera to be staged in Zara.” - Slightly browned due to the paper and showing crease marks. - Also included: a folded programme for the 1898 spring season featuring the operas *Lohengrin* and *Manon* by Massenet. Croatia – Theatre – Autograph letter signed by the director of the Teatro Nuovo in Zara (Zadar). German handwriting on paper. With printed letterhead of the theatre’s board of directors and watermark ‘Margaret Mill / Jvory Paper / Vienna Manufacture’. - An accompanying letter to a theatre programme for the first performance of *Lohengrin* at the Teatro Nuovo in Zara is also enclosed here. ‘The first performance took place on 30 April 1898 to great acclaim … *Lohengrin* was the first opera by Wagner to be performed in Zara.’ (trans.). - Each is slightly browned due to the paper and bears fold marks. - Also included: A folding programme for the 1898 spring season featuring the operas *Lohengrin* and *Manon* by Massenet.
