A collection of 3 handwritten letters bearing the signature of the Austrian composer (1870–1940). Berlin, 4 and 13 December 1936. One page each on one double sheet (individual sheet dimensions approx. 22.5 x 17.5 cm) (2 on personal letter paper with Lehár’s printed name in the letterhead, 1 on paper with the printed coat of arms and name of the Eden Hotel in Berlin). With 1 used envelope (this is slightly soiled and stained) addressed to Senior Government Councillor Gustav Sommerfeld in Berlin.
Contains: 2 letters dated 4 and 13 December to Senior Government Councillor Gustav Sommerfeld. - A cancellation, due to illness, of an invitation to the performance of ‘Moral’, and a note of thanks for having been able to conduct the ‘outstanding Tsarevich performance’. - A request to “please take the poor little artist Drusowitsch, who is literally ‘malnourished’ in the truest sense of the word, under your wing.” - The soprano Erika Druzovic (1911–2001) had taken on the leading role of Sonja in Lehár’s operetta *Zarewitsch*. - 1 letter to the “General Director” dated 13 December 1936. - Refers to the “very weakened” condition of “Miss Drusowitsch” and her “appalling fee”, and requests that it be increased to at least 1,500 DM per month. - Each with a horizontal centre fold, slightly creased, with some light finger stains, particularly on the reverse, otherwise generally in good condition.
