Devotional Christian Exercises. With a hand-drawn title page. Each page set within a drawn decorative frame. Magnificent Rococo morocco binding with rich gold decoration in the ‘à la dentelle’ style. With floral gilding on the raised edges. Probably Paris, c. 1750–1775. 256 pp., 8 leaves, 3 leaves (index), 2 manuscript leaves on paper. Written throughout in cursive script. 19 lines per page.
Magnificent Rococo morocco leather binding with asymmetrical rocaille, naturalistic bouquets and scattered stars. The ‘à la Dentelle’ style is associated with Antoine Michel Padeloup (1685–1758). The Derome and Dubuisson families continued the tradition, and many other bookbinders copied it. The rocaille forms are already dynamic, but not yet classical in style, as the Bozerian bindings from around 1800 are. – Well preserved.
