Liber amicorum – Bavaria – Switzerland Autograph book containing 29 entries, 1 coloured engraving, 1 watercolour, 1 watercoloured pen-and-ink drawing and 1 brush drawing of a balloon in black on handmade paper bearing the watermark Mainly Lindau, Egelshofen, Eglishofen, Emishofen, Kreuzlingen, 1794–1800. 8° landscape format. Contemporary leather binding with triple gold edging, raised bands, gold-stamped spine label, and blind-stamped upright edges, gold-embossed fillets, cover borders and vignettes. With mostly German and a few French entries, including those by: Jacob, Johannes, Susanna Anderwarth, J. Baumann (“Med. Doctor”), Christian Friedrich with Anna Regina Bley, Bernhard, Christina and Ulric Frey (“votre precepteur”), Johann Karl Fürnkorn, J.M. Geslin (teacher), Justus Heinrich Hansen of Leipzig (1737–1807, merchant, councillor and master builder), Gottfried Jacob, Nicolaus Kastner (“chaplain of the High Cathedral Chapter in Constance”), Margaretha, Regina, Jacobina, Martin, J.M. and Joseph Anton Kinkelin, Zacharias Rader, Lisette Soultzer. - Marble. Endpapers. - Inside front cover with a folded paper rosette which, when opened, reveals the monogram ‘JUB’ embossed in gold on leather. - The drawing of the balloon with a spiral-shaped cut-out frame, beneath which is an inscription by J.H. Kinkelin. - The other drawing shows a view of the Stiftsplatz in Lindau. - A few leaves missing; some with slight browning and finger stains; generally in good condition. Contemporary leather binding with gilt edges, gilt-stamped spine, blind-stamped fore-edges, gilt-stamped fillets, cover borders and vignette. - Contains mostly German and a few French entries, including those by: as listed above - Marbled endpapers. - Front endpaper features a folded paper rosette which, when opened, reveals the gilt-stamped monogram ‘JUB’ in leather. - The drawing of the balloon features a spirally incised montage, beneath which is an entry by J.H. Kinkelin. - The other drawing depicts a view of Lindau. - Some leaves are missing; some are slightly browned and show finger stains, but the volume is generally well preserved.
