Austria The Guild of Butchers and the Honourable Brotherhood of St Pärtlmee here in Knitlfeldt. Handbook. Commenced. In the office of Mr Walthauser’s father, the town crier. Anno 1684. Knittelfeld, 1684–1786. Approx. 132 written leaves. Handmade paper with watermark, 8° (20 x 16 cm). Contemporary half-leather binding with leather laces; the covers are covered with red-rubricked text leaves from an early religious print (rubbed, small losses at the corners of the covering, lower spine damaged, book block warped). Comprehensive account book of the St Bartholomew Butchers’ Guild in Knittelfeld, Styria. - Records, in various handwritings, the master butchers, ‘brotherhood dues’, interest and other income (each with names), meetings held in various ‘premises’, ‘councils’ concerning payment arrangements, etc. - Begins with instructions for all brothers and sisters to honour St Bartholomew daily before going to bed. - Occasional minor wormholes and slight staining; generally in good condition.
