Writing book for Friedrich Günther. Large-format paper, c. 1840–1873. Approx. 95 leaves. 8°. Contemporary half-leather binding, with engraved illustrations on both sides (A Portuguese dining room / The Romans’ Oktoberfest) (shabby, with small missing patches in the covering in places; joints split).
Contains mostly dated, varied practice texts (on Dresden, St Petersburg, Bohemia, mushrooms, clouds, comets, religious subjects, etc.) as well as the alphabet in cursive and block letters. - On the endpapers, as well as at the beginning and in the appendix, there are entries regarding work carried out (forging, grinding, crushing, ploughing, journeys transporting loads of timber, manure and stones, and the transport of crates and letters to and from Erfurt, Elberfeld and Naumburg), in some cases including the names of the clients, (interest) income and expenses (for shoeing a horse, etc.), recipes for rheumatism (Karl Simon Compensation-Extract Posen), toothache, rubs for the joints, etc. - Enclosed: several loose, partly later pages relating to the Günther family, including, amongst others, a letter from the Wernicke family of Heinrode (1909) / from the Blättermann family of Drebsdorf (1913), a visiting card belonging to Ernst Winterhager from Potsdam. - Slightly browned due to the paper, some water-stains and finger-stains, occasional minor tears, including on some of the loose sheets; generally well preserved.
