Paper A newly drawn up and stamped paper regulation by the most noble, self-sufficient and most wise Council of the City of Nuremberg, etc., of the Holy Roman Empire, applicable within the city, its suburbs and the surrounding countryside. Nuremberg, Balthasar Joachim Endter, 1690. Title page with woodcut coat of arms of the Imperial City of Nuremberg. 8 unnumbered leaves. 4°. Two loose folded sheets (uncut and partly unseparated). Verso of the last leaf: ‘Decretum in Senatu, 28 February 1690.’ Occasional slight browning at the outer margins; otherwise well preserved. VD17 23:299291G.- Extremely rare; no copy known to us in the international market. - A rare official decree of the Nuremberg Council dating from 1690, introducing new, binding regulations on paper for the Imperial City, its suburbs and the surrounding countryside. The text regulates in great detail all the characteristics required for official municipal documents: the prescribed watermarks and embossed stamps, the use of the city coat of arms on the paper, the permissible paper qualities and the prices set for them.
