Magnificent original leather binding with blind embossing, gilded corner fleurons and clasps, gold-embossed spine, decorated raised edges and gilt edges, as well as an original linen ribbon with a mounted cover label (commentary volume) in an original black velvet slipcase with a gold-framed, mounted cover relief (slipcase slightly dusty).

The ‘Berlin’ Alexander novel is the most richly illustrated and artistically valuable of the three related manuscripts, and is particularly striking for its elaborate illustrations and opulent gold decoration. The illustrations are among the finest miniatures created in 13th-century Europe. - In immaculate condition.
