Description
Missal of Count Asmus von Wertheim. OSZK Cod. lat. 211. With numerous miniature pages, some with gold highlights. 2 volumes. Latin full facsimile with commentary in Hungarian. Budapest, Helikon 1989. 37 leaves. OHKldr. case with two metal clasps.
A copy of the deluxe edition. - A magnificent illuminated codex from the library of the Counts of Wertheim. The original is a liturgical travel missal from the House of Wertheim, a Franconian noble family whose feudal estates gained prominence in the 15th century under counts such as Johann III. Such ‘travelling missals’ were compact, often richly illuminated manuscripts intended for the private liturgical use of noble patrons whilst travelling – comparable, for example, to the type of books of hours found among southern German noble families of that period. - In good condition. Also included: Pariszi Horaskonyv (Paris Book of Hours). Full facsimile of the Book of Hours by Gillet Hardouyn, Paris 1510. Full facsimile, Budapest Helikon 1985.
