The Pericopes of Henry II. A complete facsimile of Codex Clm 4452 from the Bavarian State Library, Munich. Coron, Stuttgart / Frankfurt am Main, Müller + Schindler / S. Fischer, 1994. 2 vols. folio. Authorised facsimile edition of the magnificent manuscript produced on the island of Reichenau around 1007–1012 for Emperor Henry II and Bamberg Cathedral. Facsimile volume comprising 203 leaves, numerous gold-embossed initials and 40 full-page miniatures. Silk binding over wooden boards, front cover featuring a gilded reproduction of the original goldsmith’s binding, two clasps, black velvet pouch. Commentary volume, 148 pp., half-leather, 1 of 250 numbered copies. – The relief on the cover depicts the figure of Christ from the so-called Basel Antependium, which is housed in the Musée de Cluny in Paris. The manuscript combines an extensive Christological pictorial cycle with liturgical Gospel readings. Particularly famous are the dedication illustration depicting Henry II and Cunigunde being crowned by Christ, as well as the magnificent binding featuring a Carolingian ivory panel, set with precious stones and pearls, and Byzantine enamel plaques.
