Description
The Book of Hours of Mary Stuart, together with the execution warrant signed by Elizabeth I. Facsimile of the manuscripts Ms.62, Biblioteca Classense di Ravenna, Italy, and Lambeth Palace Library (London, England). Featuring 20 full-page miniatures, decorated coloured borders, some with gold highlights, and numerous gold-highlighted initials, as well as a commentary volume edited by Claudia Giuliani (141 pp.). 2 vols. Castelvetro di Modena, ArtCodex, 2018. 12° and Gr.-8°. Bordeaux-red velvet with three-sided gilt edges, filigree gold-coloured metal fittings featuring a green gemstone as a centrepiece, as well as pearl trim in the corners and on the front covers, housed in a velvet-lined folding case.
One of 999 numbered copies. – The Book of Hours of the Catholic Queen of Scotland (1542–1587), with its numerous Flemish miniatures, ranks among the best-preserved examples of early 16th-century Flemish book illumination. - After Mary Stuart was suspected of being involved in a planned assassination attempt on the English Queen, she was sentenced to death for high treason on 1 February and executed on 7 February 1587. - Very good condition.
