The First World War – Caricature Pauw, René de A collection of 9 caricatures relating to the First World War. 1915–1916. Watercolour pen-and-ink drawings on vellum. 32.5 x 25 cm. Each signed. A collection of caricatures by the Belgian painter René de Pauw (1887–1946). Whilst initially studying the humanities, he simultaneously began studying at the Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Bruges under Flori Van Acker. During the First World War, he then began working as a political caricaturist. De Pauw’s caricatures reflect conditions in Belgium during the war. – Edges partly slightly browned.
